The Stylish Splash

Today's feature post is all about the blog site "The Stylist Splash". My friend Yvette Wilson is the creator and author of this fabulous site and an all round genuine, stylish and inspirational person.

I first met Yvette a couple of years ago through the Interiors Addict 7Vignettes Monthly challenge. Since then I have watched her audience grow from strength to strength. With dedicated and hard work, she has made The Stylist Splash into a must read blog site covering all things interiors, lifestyle, fashion and food.

If you have been living under a rock and not noticed one of Yvette's pictures pop up in a magazine, newspaper or on Instagram, read on to find out a little more about The Stylist Splash..

Tell us a little more about you, your background and your family etc?

I am married with 3 kids, Lachy 15, Olivia 13 and Archer 6. My husband runs his own construction company where I work 1 day a week as well as run my blog and shop.

How did you come up with the name “The Stylist Splash”?

It was actually my daughter who chose the name. She came up with the idea of having a splash of daily styling and there it was born.

Did you decide one day to become a professional blogger or was it something that evolved over time?

It has actually evolved over time. With no intention of it actually becoming as big as it is. I just wanted a place to share all the lovely things I come across and it has grown from there.

What challenges did you face in the early days growing The Stylist Splash audience and how did you overcome them?

I didn’t really have any challenges as I had no expectations. I was just photographing things I love and putting it all on the blog. I had no idea that I was growing at a rapid rate and that people loved what I do.

Tell us what a normal day in the life of The Stylist Splash is like..

Well I normally do all the boring house chores first. Kids off to school and all that stuff. Then by the afternoon I dedicate an hour or 2 to the blog before school pickup. I read my emails, gather inspiration from other blogs and prepare my posts and plan my instagram photos. Not that exciting but I try to squeeze in as much as I can in that time.

What have been the highlights of The Stylist Splash so far? What are you the most proud of?

I am proud of all my magazine exposure. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that what I style would be good enough to go to print. I am also proud of my latest achievement in Home Beautiful Magazine. My son’s bedroom is a finalist in the top 50 most beautiful room and I had a photographer and stylist come to the house. I was so proud of that moment and to see his bedroom in print was so exciting.

What advice would you give to those wanting to start their own blog?

Work hard and stay true to yourself. So many people want a piece of you and for nothing ( sorry a bit of negativity) choose wisely who you want to work with and the rest will fall in to place.

Where do you see The Stylist Splash in 2 year’s time?

I’m not really sure. Maybe just plodding along doing the same thing, I don’t really know as you know I have not really thought about this. As it has grown so quickly, sometimes I can barely keep up. Best I do a business plan (lol).

You obviously have a talent for styling, how would you describe your personal interior style at home?

I love colour ( as you can tell from my IG) but I also love a mix of contemporary and classic style. Gosh I don;t know, I love anything new on the shops but not to modern or minimal. Minimal is definitely something I can’t do.

If you weren’t styling and blogging, what else would you love to do and why?

I’d love to open a little café and serve homemade goodies and good coffee. I would love to do this one day, but I’ll wait till the kids are older and I can dedicate my whole time to it.

Do you have a favourite quote or inspirational mantra that you love and if so what is it?

I love positive quotes but don’t really have a favourite. Work hard, be nice is what I say to my kids that’s about all.

Just want to say a big thanks to Yvette for taking the time out of her busy schedule to have a chat to me about The Stylist Splash.. You can follow Yvette's journey on Instagram here and on Facebook here

The Stylist Splash also has an online shop where you can buy many of the homewares and decor items you see in Yvette's pictures, just click on the image below to start shopping the look..
